Southwest is probably my favorite airline as it’s the only one which allows me the most flexibility. With free award changes, free checked baggage, and the opportunity for a companion pass, what’s not to like?
I had a lot of Southwest points which I was looking to burn over July 4th weekend. Since it’s a premium weekend, I knew the prices (or points) are going be high as well.
Since my destination was open, I was looking for a way to see what the prices of the flights would be to different destinations. I clearly wasn’t going to type in each destination separately.
Browsing through the Southwest site, I came across the “Search by Map” function:
When you click on that, you can type in your originating airport, put in your dates and Southwest will show you the prices in dollars or points for all the destinations from your airport. It has a filter for fares, so you can find destinations that are at or below your desired fare.
I thought it was a pretty cool feature if you are not set on a particular destination. If your decision to travel depends more on the fare than the destination, you might find this tool useful.
